Psalm 34:8

Taste and see that the Lord is good.

A word from the ranch table — on appetite, the bread of life, and why affection follows attention.

Have you ever been to Costco or some other store where they hand out free samples of food? You can take their word for just how wonderful it is, but you’ll never know for sure if it’s good until you actually “take it” and “eat it!”

The Word (the Bible) is also what Jesus referred to Himself as “the bread of life.” Jesus is the WORD. When we read and meditate on the Word, we acquire an appetite for the Word. The more we read the Word, the hungrier we get! We find ourselves wanting more.

Romans 12:11 and 12 tells us to “keep our passion towards Him boiling hot.” There should be continual joy coming forth from us because of the hope within us.

If that’s not the case with you, then maybe there’s a problem with your appetite. Maybe you have lost the desire to read the Word!

Your affection will follow what you give attention to. If you, by faith and self-control, keep reading the Word and keep reading it, you’ll find that it is alive and that life will stir up something within your spirit. Suddenly, you’ll have an appetite for the Word. You’ll want to read the Word! You’ll want to spend time with Jesus. There’s nothing more satisfying than tasting the Word. You will truly see that the Lord is good.

Your affection will follow your attention. That affection releases the passion and joy that comes when the hope that is in us is awakened!

Bon appétit!
