Is eating the Lord’s Supper important? Can eating a piece of bread really bring about great miracles?
Don’t forget: It was by one act of eating that man fell. Man ate from the wrong tree. The fall of man and all the curses that accompanied it ie. poverty, disease, sickness, death. These came about because Adam ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Today, by partaking of what the second Adam did on the tree of Calvary, you reverse what the first Adam did at the wrong tree. In 1 Corinthians 11:23–25, Paul says:
Did you know a lot of Christians have avoided partaking of communion out of fear because of sin in their lives? They consider themselves unworthy and it would bring damnation because they have been taught wrong about God and his nature and character.
- God is good!
- He is not mad at you!
- God loves you so much that He sent Jesus to take your punishment.
( see Isaiah 54:9, John 3:16) It is our responsibility to BELIEVE that love. I John 4:16. First of all God has not given us the spirit of fear and furthermore who would be considered “worthy” as “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God?”
Am I Worthy?
No one could ever be worthy except Jesus. We see in I Corinthians 11: 28-29 that we are to judge ourselves so as not to be condemned with the world. With the judgment and reproach passed on to all mankind because of Adam and Eve’s sin came spiritual death, fear, sickness and disease, poverty, bondage and eventually physical death.
“The wages of sin is death BUT the gift of God is eternal life.” Romans 6:23. Here Paul referred to the Jews as being “unworthy” because they refused to receive eternal life. They rejected attainment of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Therefore it is pretty clear that only unbelievers are “ unworthy.” That my friend can be changed in an instant – just as long as it takes you to ask Jesus to come into your life, forgive you for your sins and by faith you believe what he did in his death, burial and resurrection was for you. To judge ourselves as believers is not a fearful thing.
If in fact you know you have unrepentant sin in your heart – Acknowledge it before God and thank him that through what Jesus did for you, you are forgiven.
“ OUR SINS AND INIQUITIES HE WILL REMEMBER NO MORE!” HEBREWS 10:17
As believers, because of Jesus, we have been given right standing with God. If in fact we choose to reject communion as God’s way of keeping us in right standing with him by our showing AGREEMENT with him and what he did for us at the cross, then yes we will suffer with the world the judgment pronounced by God when he condemned sin on the body of his son on that cross 2000 years ago.
Remember!
Jesus said “DO THIS IN REMEMBERANCE OF ME”. The amplified says “CALL ME AFFECTIONATELY TO REMBERANCE”. Note: he didn’t say to do this in remembrance of “YOU” ; Communion is not about you. It is not a time to remember all your shortcomings, sins and failures or to determine yourself unworthy to participate.
The truth is that no one is worthy of God’s great sacrifice except Jesus. Receiving what he did for us WITH THANKSGIVING is an act of faith which pleases God. Stop listening to the lies of the devil. He knows if he can get you to condemn yourself and judge yourself unworthy. Being unworthy causes you to refuse the communion elements then he can keep you weak, sickly and cause you to die an early or untimely death.
